Becca joined our TLA family in September 2018. Quickly establishing herself, Becca is now the Head of Musical Theatre, singing teacher for all upper school group sessions, and a private vocal coach.
Becca has always had a huge passion for nurturing and developing voices, with a keen interest in vocal health in particular. Becca’s teaching style is holistic; combining emotion, physicality and vocal technique to help singers discover their voices in the way they were designed to be used, and help singers find their own authentic vocal style.
Becca has been training since the age of 7, and has gained up to grade 8 Trinity Guildhall singing with distinction. Her experience has been hugely varied from Classical, Musical Theatre, to pop and other contemporary styles.
Also a songwriter, Becca has written for and fronted numerous bands and also spent a number of years as a writer for a pop songwriting and production house based in Brighton. Currently, she writes and performs with her duo, ‘Cecilia’, and continues to develop various solo projects. She provides session backing vocals, and has lent her voice to CBeebies ‘Old Jack’s Boat’ as the mermaid.
Becca spent 4 years in total at Leeds Conservatoire, finishing with the highest grade in her year for her undergraduate degree performance recital. She then went on to study for a Masters in Creative Music, developing her skills in performance, songwriting/composition and production. During this time, she collaborated with music students from some of the best Conservatoires across Europe on a songwriting programme, performed with Marc Almond of Soft Cell, and sang with the Leeds Contemporary Singers, who were recently featured on the BBC’s Pitch Battle. She also toured round Belgium as one of the singers for Leeds Conservatoire’s Big Band.
Since graduating from Leeds Conservatoire, Becca has had a colourful teaching career. She has taught peripatetically in schools, both in group and one to one settings, and has also maintained a thriving private practice at home and online. She has taught in various performing arts settings, and was the Musical Director for the ‘Straybirds’ ladies choir in Harrogate for a number of years.
Becca is always looking for new ways to expand her knowledge of the voice, and regularly attends conferences and courses to keep up to date with the latest developments in vocal pedagogy.
